Bondgate IT ranked 226th in the world in the 2026 MSP 501
Almost every claim an IT provider makes about itself is written by the IT provider. Independent assessment is rarer, and it is worth more to the person who has to sign the contract.
If you are a finance director, operations director or managing director carrying responsibility for IT, you already know how this goes. You collect three proposals. All three describe themselves as proactive, trusted and security-led. All three have a case study page. None of it tells you which of them is actually well run, and none of it survives contact with a supplier questionnaire or an insurer asking for evidence.
That is why the MSP 501 matters more than the usual badge on a website. It is assessed by a third party, it looks at how the business is run rather than how it markets itself, and providers have to submit financial and operational data to be considered at all.
Bondgate IT has been ranked 226th globally in the 2026 MSP 501, an improvement on our 2025 placing of 228th, in a year when more providers than ever competed for a place on the list.

What the MSP 501 actually measures
This is the part most people miss. It is not a popularity vote and it is not a revenue table.
The MSP 501 has run for 19 years and separated itself from simple revenue rankings by requiring a full analysis of financial performance, operational efficiency and business health. Size alone does not get a provider onto the list. Sustainable growth, recurring revenue strength, profit discipline and the operational control that keeps service quality steady while a business grows all carry weight.
That distinction is the reason the list is useful to a buyer. A provider can grow quickly and still be badly run. A provider can be large and still be one key engineer away from a service problem. The MSP 501 methodology is designed to separate the two.
What the assessment looks at
- Financial performance and profitability
- Recurring revenue strength and stability
- Operational efficiency and how the business scales
- Overall business health rather than headline turnover
- Vendor and platform neutral advice to clients
Why that reads across to your contract
- Financial stability reduces the risk of a mid-term supplier failure
- Operational efficiency shows up as consistent response and delivery
- Recurring revenue models support long term planning, not project chasing
- Neutral advice means recommendations follow your requirement, not a vendor target
- Externally assessed data is evidence you can put in front of a board
The 2026 MSP 501 in numbers
The 2026 list reflects a sector growing through a period of considerable change.
Robert DeMarzo, vice president of content at MSP Summit, described this year’s cohort as providers that stand head and shoulders above the competition, and pointed to managed services organisations acting as the backbone of small, medium and large organisations worldwide. The list sets the operational benchmark the rest of the sector is measured against.
What sits behind the ranking
“It’s a good recognition to get, but what matters more is what sits behind it. Technology, cyber security and AI are changing how businesses buy and use IT, and that pace isn’t slowing down. We’ve kept investing in our people, our processes and the tools that let us do a better job for clients.”
Garry Brown, Managing Director, Bondgate IT
Garry also credited the partner network behind the growth. ConnectWise, Pax8 and The IT Nation all push the standard higher and have played a real part in how the business has developed. And none of it happens without the team, whose skill and willingness to keep adapting are the reason Bondgate IT keeps growing without dropping the standard clients expect.
The ranking sits alongside evidence that clients can verify directly. Bondgate IT is certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 9001, and is Cyber Essentials certified, so the governance standards we advise on are the ones we are externally audited against every year. The business was also named winner of Best Use of AI at the MSP Awards 2025, and featured in the BBC documentary Cyber Siege: From Russia to Redcar.
How to use a ranking like this when you are assessing a provider
A badge on a website is a starting point, not an answer. Here is how to turn it into something useful during a procurement or a contract review.
Ask what the assessment measured
Some awards are paid for or voted on. Ask which recognitions involved submitting financial and operational data to a third party, and which did not. The answer tells you how much weight to give each one.
Ask for the year, and the year before
A single appearance can be a good year. A pattern across consecutive years suggests the business is run consistently. Ask for the trend rather than the headline.
Separate marketing claims from certifications
ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and Cyber Essentials come with certificate numbers you can check. Ask for them. Also check the scope on the certificate, since it does not always cover the whole organisation.
Ask what evidence you would receive as a client
Risk registers, documented processes, lifecycle plans and board level reporting are the things that answer an insurer, an auditor or a customer questionnaire. If a provider cannot describe what you would be given, that is your answer.
Ask who carries the risk between reviews
Reactive support models leave leadership holding risk nobody is actively tracking. Ask how often risk is reviewed, who owns each item, and how a decision to accept a risk gets recorded.
Test it against a real deadline
Take a deadline you already have, an insurance renewal, a customer questionnaire, Cyber Essentials, and ask each provider to walk you through exactly how they would get you ready for it. Vague answers surface quickly.
Those six questions are worth asking of any provider you are considering, including us. If the answers are strong, you have a partner. If they are not, you have found out early, which is the cheapest time to find out.
Frequently asked questions
What is the MSP 501?
The MSP 501 is an annual ranking of the 501 best run managed service providers worldwide, produced by MSP Summit and running for 19 years. Providers submit financial and operational data, which is assessed against criteria covering financial performance, operational efficiency and overall business health.
Where did Bondgate IT rank in the 2026 MSP 501?
Bondgate IT was ranked 226th globally in the 2026 MSP 501, an improvement on 228th in 2025. The company is based in Darlington and has appeared on the list in consecutive years.
How is the MSP 501 different from other IT awards?
Most industry awards are judged on submissions describing a project or a campaign. The MSP 501 assesses how the business itself is run, using financial and operational data rather than size alone, which is why a smaller provider can rank above a larger one.
Does a high MSP 501 ranking mean better service for clients?
It is a strong indicator rather than a guarantee. The criteria reward operational discipline, recurring revenue stability and efficient delivery, which are the same things that keep service consistent as a provider grows. It should be assessed alongside certifications, references and evidence of governance.
What certifications does Bondgate IT hold?
Bondgate IT is certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 9001, and is Cyber Essentials certified. Certificate details are available on request.
Where this leaves you
If you are reviewing an IT contract, preparing for a cyber insurance renewal, or answering a customer security questionnaire for the first time, the useful next step is not a proposal. It is a straight conversation about what you already have, what is missing, and how much work stands between you and the deadline you are facing.
That conversation takes about thirty minutes and you leave with a clear view of your position, whether you work with us or not.
